Falmouth, ME — Normandeau Associates has been supporting the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MEDEP) with environmental services to review state permit applications submitted by Central Maine Power for a proposed major upgrade and expansion of existing utility infrastructure. The overall project includes upgrades or expansion of approximately 360 miles of transmission corridor, and up to 19 substations. To construct the project, Central Maine Power applied for approval from the MEDEP under the requirements of the Site Location of Development Act and Natural Resources Protection Act in July of 2009. Normandeau assisted MEDEP by conducting a peer review of the applicant's delineation of jurisdictional natural resources within the project area including wetlands, vernal pools, streams, significant wildlife habitats, and other surface water bodies. Summary reports were prepared as field reviews were completed for each transmission corridor segment. The summary reports provided the MEDEP with information regarding the locations of areas where resources were not accurately delineated, as well as the specific rationale and characteristics supporting the jurisdictional opinion.
