Falmouth, MA — Normandeau Associates was recently awarded three contracts by Dominion Manchester Street, LLC in preparation for the Rhode Island Pollution Discharge Elimination System (RIPDES) Permit renewal. A key to the renewal is the preparation of a 316(a) variance request. Normandeau will be providing installation and maintenance of eight hydrographic buoy systems in the Providence River equipped with duplicate water temperature and water quality and pressure sensors to record changes in tide stage. Normandeau will also provide intensive spring and summer water quality surveys, an ADCP current survey and a bathymetric survey all designed to support the development of a hydrothermal model for the Providence River near Manchester Street Station.

Additionally, Normandeau will conduct fish behavior studies in the vicinity of Manchester Street's thermal discharge. The studies will focus on whether the discharge presents a thermal deterrent to the free movement of diadromous fish. In conjunction with these studies, additional sampling will be conducted to determine if the Providence River in the vicinity of Manchester Street Station can be considered to have a balanced indigenous population or community (BIP/BIC).
