Recently, we have responded to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita along the Gulf Coast and Sandy in New Jersey as well as flooding events in North Dakota. We have also provided support to a recent railroad spill cleanup in Oregon and North Carolina, and an oil spill in Maine.

Our staff have experience with the Incident Command System at the USEPA Region 1 office and for the US Corps of Engineers, New England District, and many are trained by FEMA to assist with natural disaster responses acting as environmental specialists and Public Assistance Coordinators. For the National Park Service our staff have reviewed and coordinated Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure planning. Several of our environmental professionals are OSHA Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response certified. For nuclear plant facilities, we are qualified to participate in routine Radiological Environmental Monitoring Programs and capable to respond to emergency events as needed.

Our offices are equipped with numerous sampling devices for water, sediment and marine and freshwater biota. A fleet of boats from 12-foot Jon boats to 35-foot offshore vessels can support efforts to monitor and sample emergency events. A scientific diving team complements the equipment and fleet. Our three biological laboratories may assist with evaluation of impacted natural resources.

In addition, our professional staff provide mapping expertise to assist in monitoring emergency events. We map events using the Federal Geographic Data Committee and U.S. Corps compliant metadata process; aerial photo map interpretation and spatial analysis and modeling as well as bathymetric mapping and wetland and habitat analysis. We also provide critical issues and fatal flaw analysis to scope out clean up alternatives.
