Normandeau Associates, Inc., announced today that its board of directors has elected COL (ret) Curtis L. Thalken, PE, as the company’s next chief executive officer (CEO). Normandeau, based in Bedford, NH, with 10 offices nationwide, is one of the nation’s top science-based environmental consulting, research and technology firms.
Thalken, who serves as Normandeau’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, will succeed Pam Hall, the company’s long time CEO and current chair of the board of directors. Hall will continue as board chair and be an executive vice president.
“This appointment is the culmination of a period of careful and thoughtful transition planning,” said Hall, speaking on behalf of the board of directors.
“I am honored our board of directors has selected me for this opportunity and I am humbled to be following in the footsteps of my mentor Pam Hall” said Thalken. “Pam’s strong leadership and vision for the company allowed us to evolve from a small privately held firm, through an intermediate step as a subsidiary of a large publicly held firm, and ultimately to a 100% employee-owned firm of 200 doing business throughout the U.S. and internationally.”
Thalken brings over 35 years of management, environmental consulting, engineering and permitting expertise to the position. His military career culminated as Commander of the New England District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) responsible for all aspects of the Federal Government’s engineering efforts and regulatory programs within New England. Since joining Normandeau, Thalken has been responsible for overseeing company operations, including expansion of Normandeau’s Federal and State Government portfolio, an increased presence in renewable energy markets, and has championed innovative technologies to address emerging environmental issues for our clients.
Hall joined Normandeau Associates in 1971 soon after the firm was founded and was one of the “pioneers” in the emerging environmental industry. She assumed leadership of the company in 1988. Under her leadership the company experienced significant growth, diversification and geographical expansion. Hall is passionate about corporate social responsibility including employee ownership, civic and community engagement, and volunteerism. She has served on numerous non-profit boards over the last 30 years, many times in leadership roles, and she led the effort 20 years ago to make the company employee owned.
