Environmental Business Journal® (EBJ), a business research publication that has provided strategic business intelligence to the environmental industry since 1988, has honored Pam Hall with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Normandeau Associates with a 50-Year Recognition Award. Both Pam Hall and Curt Thalken were in attendance at this year’s virtual awards ceremonies on February 11th and 12th.
The year 2020 was the 50th anniversary of United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the institution of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the President’s Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), and other environmental protection initiatives at state and federal levels that endure today. Therefore, EBJ has decided to formally recognize companies founded in 1970, like Normandeau, that are still flourishing today.
EBJ’s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients began their careers around the time of the founding of the EPA and each honoree answered the call to environmental action. As they grew into their professional roles, these folks helped shape the industry as we know it today. EBJ honors Lifetime Award recipients for their dedication to the environment and the health of the planet.
Pam Hall began her career with Normandeau in 1971 and was CEO for 32 years. Pam’s leadership was pivotal in growing the company from a small NH firm to a national name—with offices and staff in nine states. She also spearheaded the effort to shift the company to 100% employee ownership in 2000. Pam’s dedicated and reliable leadership style is her legacy—both for Normandeau and the industry.
Normandeau’s current CEO Col. (Ret.) Curt Thalken reflected on the indisputable connection of these two awards: “Pam’s achievement is really the story of Normandeau. She was one of Dr. Normandeau’s first hires and captained the ship for the last 32 years. It was her leadership that grew the company to where it is today. As a successful, midsized firm, we now have the staff to manage large field efforts and the brain power to develop our own patented and proprietary technology. We also enjoy the autonomy our Employee Ownership allows us—an effort that can also be attributed to Pam. The connection between these two awards is undeniable.”
